ASTM A513 ERW Carbon and Alloy Steel Mechanical Tubing

ASTM A513 covers round, square, rectangular, and special shape electric-resistance-welded carbon and alloy steel mechanical tubing produced by hot- or cold-rolling. The types of tubing covered here are:

Type 1a, as-welded from hot-rolled steel (with mill scale);

Type 1b, as-welded from hot-rolled pickled and oiled steel (mill scale removed);

Type 2, as-welded from cold-rolled steel;

Type 3, sink-drawn hot-rolled steel;

Type 4, sink-drawn cold-rolled steel;

Type 5, drawn over a mandrel; and

Type 6, special smooth inside diameter.

Heat and product analyses shall be made to determine the percentages of chemical elements to which the steel specimens shall conform.

ERW Tubing from Hot-Rolled Steel:

OD: 1/2" - 15" (12.7 - 380mm)

WT: 0.065" - 0.650" (1.65 - 16.5mm)

ERW Tubing from Cold-Rolled Steel:

OD: 3/8" - 12" (9.5 - 300mm)

WT: 0.022" - 0.134" (0.56 - 3.40mm)

Our Quality Control of ASTM A513 Alloy Mechanical Tube

We conduct mandatory mechanical property testing (tensile strength, yield strength, elongation), dimensional deviation testing (outer diameter, wall thickness, roundness), and surface defect inspection (free of cracks, scars, and dents) to ensure consistent performance across each batch of pipes.

 

Type 1A (Hot-rolled Welded Scale): This retains the hot-rolled scale layer on the surface, resulting in lower cost and is suitable for structural parts with less demanding surface appearance (such as agricultural machinery brackets);

 

Type 1B (Hot-rolled Pickled and Oiled): This is followed by pickling and anti-rust oiling after scale removal, resulting in a highly clean surface and facilitating subsequent welding or painting.

 

Type 2 (Cold-rolled Welded): This cold-rolling process improves dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness, making it suitable for parts requiring higher precision (such as automotive shock absorber bushings).

 

Type 5 (Mandrel Drawn / DOM): This process uses a mandrel-drawn (Draw Over Mandrel) process to achieve high precision and uniform wall thickness on both the inner and outer surfaces, making it the preferred choice for high-load structural parts (such as mechanical transmission shafts).

 

We offer a variety of surface finishes, including black, pickling, and oiling. Customized finishes are also available. Galvanizing and other coatings are also available to enhance corrosion resistance.
